Sam Widdoes works with award-winning directors, producers and rights holders to provide counsel rooted in his personal experience as a scripted and documentary producer. Sam advises clients in all stages of development, production and distribution, including rights acquisition, licensing, and brand partnerships, and serves a production counsel for independently financed features and short films.
Sam began his career in commercial litigation, and in 2017, he co-founded the production company District 33, where he served as president and head of business and legal affairs, and produced the documentaries Blackballed (Quibi/Roku) and As We Speak: Rap Music on Trial (Paramount+), which premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. In 2022, he formed Widdoes Law, providing entertainment and general business counsel to producers and productions companies, as well as production and distribution counsel to films such as Academy Award-winning documentary The Last Repair Shop.
Sam earned his J.D. from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law (2013), and holds a B.A. in journalism from the University of Richmond (2008).
He is admitted to practice law in California.
